Overview of the Department
The Department of English is one of the oldest and premier departments of the college started in 1962. It offers General English to all the streams and English literature as a core paper in B. A and M.A programmes. The Department focuses to promote Communication Skills and empower students with relevant skills set in the globalised context. Having been introduced in 1992-93, the PG English Department has completed its Silver Jubilee in 2018-19 and organized a Two Day National Conference on “Skillset through Education” along with the other PG Departments. It is affiliated to Krishna University and is shortly going to become autonomous. At present, the programme is run as per the guidelines of KRU.

Overview of the Department
Since the inception of Maris Stella College the department of Telugu is a part of it. From 1962 to late 1980’s most of the students opted it for their language study. Even today Telugu is the most favourite course of many students. Being an autonomous college apart from the 80% curriculum prescribed by APSCHE the department of Telugu introducing 20% which creates more interest in subject to the students. In such a way the department prescribing the syllabus. The department is conducting various literary and cultural activities to build up confidence of a student in creative writing, in reading high standard works of literature and to present through dramas, seminars and mono actions by understanding the content properly.

The Department of Sanskrit came into existence with the over whelming demand from the student community in the year 1984. Year by year the strength of students is growing with big number. Apart from the offered Regular Course the Department conducted one year spoken Sanskrit centre sponsored by UGC in the year of Sanskrit announced by Govt.of India. The Department organised 6 National Conferences and 1 International conference on Sri Jagannatha Vangmaya Vaibhavam, Trible Literature and Culture, Yogic Methods of Inquiry, Contribution of Andhrities in 60 years of Independent India, Contribution of Prof. Satyavrat Shastri the first jnanpeeth awardee in Sanskrit to sanskrit literature, Krishnadevaraya’s Contribution to Sanskrit Literature, Agamaas, Mana Telugu Tejam, sponsored by Rastriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha-Tirupati, UGC, Indian Council of Philosophical Research-New Delhi, Sri Venkateswara Vedic University-Tirupati, A.P State Council of Higher Education, Sanskrit Academy-Hyderabad respectively. National Workshop and Exhibition on Sanskrit Epigraphy also organised in collaboration with Archaeological Survey of India (Epigraphy Department) Mysuru, and Department of Museums and Archaeology, Govt.of A.P.
Under CPE of UGC the Department designed diploma and Advanced diploma courses on Indian Indigenous Medicine and offered the same to the students.
The Department under autonomous system prescribing 20% of Curriculum Apart from the 80% of APSCHE which provides maturity to student by the study of Sanskrit.

HISTORY & TOURISM
The postgraduate Department of Bioinformatics was instituted in 2002. From 2005-2010 the programme was supported by the Innovative Programme of the UGC, and this enabled the Department to improve its infrastructure and engage in innovative methods of teaching and research.
The Master’s degree in Bioinformatics offers a strong multi-disciplinary acquaintance to develop computational methods that integrate technologies from science, statistics, and chemistry to handle and process biological data.
The Department has a well-established computer lab with a high-end server and computers with a 24×7 internet facility. Under the DST-FIST Grant-2017, the Department has procured the Schrodinger software, an inclusive platform to address the challenges in pharmaceutical research and to cater to the needs of teaching, research and industrial applications.
The Summer Internship is an integral part of the course at the end of the first year. Students intern in reputed institutions all over the country such as IGIB, RGCB, IBAB, NCBS and IISc. They are involved in the live projects of these Institutes and acquire hands-on experience in handling commercial software, as well as training in work ethics.
The Department organises International and National seminars, workshops and conferences on multitude areas of Computational Biology with the invited resource persons from reputed institutes across the country.
Adding to the accolades, our students have been selected for MS in Genomics at the University at Buffalo, University of Manchester, Leicester University, University of Cardiff, and Ph.D. in Environmental Bioinformatics, at Taichung University, Taiwan. Students have been placed in various industries like Fabgenics, CIBA-ICAR, Kyvor Genomics, Blackbuck Technologies and many more.

Overview of the Department
The department of Social Work in Maris Stella College was established in the year 1972. The Department is actively involved in providing evidence-based, quality oriented social work education through most advanced and emerging domains of practice, research and field interventions. It has also engaged itself in strengthening social work practice, research and field projects. Maris Stella’s BSW program is holistic and unique. It is both academic and experiential.
The Department runs its field action programmes to demonstrate the relevance of social work interventions in dealing with social issues and problems and also to strengthen its theoretical foundation. The program maintains a healthy balance between classroom sessions and field practice. Students are introduced to basic concepts in Social Work and the values and ethics integral to the Social Work profession. Students undertake observational visits to selected social service agencies and health care centers offering community services. 1. Introduction
The Department of Mathematics was established in 1962 with the goal of fostering analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning among students. The department is committed to providing a strong foundation in mathematics, equipping students with the knowledge required for higher education, research, and industry, and holistic student development, preparing young women to meet the challenges of a dynamic world with confidence and an environment of academic excellence.

2. Historical Background
The Department introduced the BSc Mathematics programme with Physics and Chemistry in 1962. Initially, faculty from Chennai supported the department, and in 1968, Sr. Susan, a former correspondent and provincial, joined as one of the first faculty members. Over the years, dedicated lecturers such as Ms. B. Koteswaramma (HoD, 1971-1998), Ms. Durga Subbayamma (1971-1989), and Ms. Leela Ratnam (1976-1990) played a significant role in shaping the department. Since 1998, Ms. G. Usha Kumari has been leading the department, ensuring its continuous growth.
To cater to evolving student interests and industry needs, the department introduced new programmes such as BSc Mathematics with Physics and Computer Science in 1991, BSc Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, BA Mathematics, Economics and Statistics and MSc Mathematics in 2003, and BSc Mathematics with Electronics and Computer Science in 2007. With the introduction of autonomy in 2003, the department also offered innovative two interdisciplinary elective courses: Quantitative Aptitude and Analytical Skills and launched certificate courses like Arithmetic; Sets, Relations & Functions on MOODLE.
3. Academic Programmes
The department offers undergraduate programmes in Mathematics with interdisciplinary combinations, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and applied mathematics. The courses offered in Mathematics include:
Core Courses: Differential Equations, Analytical Solid Geometry, Group Theory, Numerical Methods, Laplace Transforms, Special Functions, Ring Theory, Introduction to Real Analysis, Integral Transforms, Linear Algebra, and Vector Calculus.
Elective Courses: Functions of Complex Variables, Advanced Numerical Methods, Number Theory, and Mathematical Statistics which are skill enhancement courses.
Interdisciplinary Electives: Analytical Skills, a Skill Enhancement Course and Basic Mathematics, a Multidisciplinary Course.

STATISTICS
Overview of the Department
Taking into consideration, the need of the students and the employment pattern, the college has introduced B.Sc. with Maths, statistics and computers in 2003. This combination has succeeded in drawing the attention of the student community and is being taught very successfully. Since the beginning of autonomy in 2003, an IDE namely Comprehensive Statistical methods has been taught. We have also taught different elective subjects namely Operations Research, Actuarial Statistics, Time Series Analysis and Demography and Vital Statistics.

Overview of the Department
The department of Physics was established in the year 1962. The Department defines its mission in the context of academic excellence, and scientific integrity. As Physics is a bridge between technology and society, the department’s primary responsibility is to bring an understanding of basics of Physics and prepare undergraduate students for career in Physics and assume leadership roles in an increasingly scientific and technological world. The Department of Physics makes student learning its central focus and encourages faculty members to pursue M.Phil and Ph.D, undertaking research projects, participating and presenting papers in International and National seminars, undergoing various faculty enrichment programs etc. The department adopts technology enhanced teaching and learning and help students to develop better insight, and conceptual models of physical phenomena.
The department grabs all opportunities to enhance skills of students by arranging internships at Efftronics System Private Limited, short term training programmes at MHRD instituted ‘SIEMEN’s Skill Development Centre’ at Andhra Loyola Institute of Engineering & Technology approved by the Govt. of AP and short term certificate courses for 30 hours conducted by ECE department of Andhra Loyola Institute of Engineering and Technology, Vijayawada.
The departments of Physics inaugurated the Physics INSPIRE CLUB on 6th November,2014. Inspire club provides opportunities in a great way to build skills including leadership, teamwork, communication and learners could showcase talents in a brilliant way. The department organizes many students centric events, educational tours and inter- collegiate competitions. Students from intermediate, UG and PG sections of various colleges participate in it. Getting involved in club activities can increase peer network, which in turn, increases exposure and learning in academic and social environments.

Overview of the Department
The Department of Electronics was established in the year 1991. From the inception Mathematics, Physics and Electronics was offered as the combination. Since 2007-08 Mathematics and Electronics are offered in combination with Computer Science. This course was intended to produce students competent in theory, design and applications which has a good market value and considered as the latest trend of the job market.

COMPUTER SCIENCE
- Overview of the Department:
The Department of computer science was established in the year 1990. The goal of the department is to prepare students to become thoughtful, productive members of the computing profession and community.
Computer science courses come in combination with other groups. They are MPCs, MSCs, MECs, and MCCs. The curriculum is designed in such a way that it gives both basic foundations as well as covers the latest technologies to the student.
The course follows APSCHE structure and UGC syllabus. Every three years the syllabus is revised with the latest technologies. The laboratories are equipped with the software and the hardware configuration required for the student to perform lab practical.
Computer Science curriculum incorporates subjects like programming in C/C++, Python, java & PHP, Database management Systems, Operating System, Data Structures, Internet Technologies, Software Engineering and Big Data technologies.

- Student should acquire adequate competency in theory, systems, and applications, the three main areas of the computer science curriculum

The Department of Botany was established in the year 1962 with Smt. Rama Manoher, a dynamic personality as first member as the faculty. Many great personalities served the department. T. Nirmala Devi, Sr. Antonia, Mrs. P. Sheela Praba, Mrs. Kamala Kumari, Dr. J. Asha Kumari and Mrs CVL Karuna were some of the retired staff members. Presently, three members serving in this department. The department is flourishing with three well equipped laboratories (One for under graduate courses and the other for Intermediate course apart from these two, a plant tissue culture laboratory is also there) a well collected museum, a departmental library with good number of books and two botanical gardens (Medicinal and horticultural). The PG Department of Business Administration was started in the year 2004 with an aim to groom young women into managers and entrepreneurs. The department conducts a two-year full time MBA programme affiliated to Krishna University and approved by All india Council for Technical Education.
